Bangalore, Dec 23: The inaugural of the office of the monitoring cell for Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETI) by Dharmasthala based Rural Development and Self Employment Training Institute (RUDSETI) was held at Vijayanagar Club, on Tuesday December 20.

Dr D Veerendra Heggade, president of National Academy of RUDSETI, presided over the function on Tuesday December 20.

State additional chief secretary K Jairaj, in his inaugural address, lauded the contribution of RUDSETI in addressing the unemployment problem in the country. “The RUDSETI concept has spread all over India because of the value-based training imparted to trainees which enables them to take up self-employment. All this has been possible because of the visionary leadership of Dr Heggade and the support of two financial institutions-Syndicate Bank and Canara Bank,” he added.

Union Ministry of Rural Development (MORD) secretary T Vijay Kumar, in his keynote address, observed that RUDSETI has a presence only in 16 states. As RUDSETI is expected to be a role model for other RSETIs in the state, he urged Dr Heggade and the sponsoring banks to ensure that at least one RUDSETI is opened in the states where it does not have a presence.

Kumar also urged Jairaj to make the state a ‘resource state’ for the rest of the country. He acknowledged the continued patronage of the sponsors of RUDSETI under the visionary leadership of Dr Heggade and assured the bankers and other stake holders of all the requisite support from the union government.

Canara Bank chairman and managing director S Raman and Syndicate Bank executive director Ravi Chatterjee, pledged their continued support to the cause of RUDSETI movement and assured the union government that both the banks, with strong ethos and values, will walk an extra mile in carrying the movement forward.

Both the executives spoke on the relevance of bank linkage to the RSETI-trained entrepreneurs.

Dr Heggade, in his presidential address, recalled the days of 1982 when RUDSETI was established.  Over the years, the concept has grown manifold and when the union government approached him to take up the mantle of chairmanship of National Advisory Council for RSETIs to monitor and mentor 475 RSETIs in the country, he was overwhelmed by the confidence the GOI has reposed in him. He was elated that the humble experiment which started in a small village has assumed national significance in addressing the unemployment problem of the country. He thanked the sponsors of RUDSETI- Syndicate Bank and Canara Bank for their unstinted support over the years. He was all praise for the proactive role played by MORD joint secretary Vijay Kumar in spearheading the RSETI movement in the country.

During the inaugural function, a few successful entrepreneurs trained by RUDSETI shared their experience.

The inaugural function was attended by top executives of both the sponsor banks, a host of other officials, and RUDSETI well-wishers from other banks and government departments.

K N Janardhan, chief project co-ordinator, monitoring cell for RSETIs on deputation from Syndicate Bank, welcomed the gathering. Nagendra Babu K N, director, proposed the vote of thanks and N R Srinivasa Murthy, director, compered the programme.

RUDSETI is a house hold name in the country in addressing the unemployment problem and has been accepted as a replicable model by the union government. It has advised all the nationalized banks with lead bank responsibilities to open similar institutes called RSETIs in all districts across the country.

Accordingly, 475 RSETIs have come up across the country. As the number of RSETIs grew, the quality of training and administration on par with RUDSETI model was a matter of concern for the government. Thus, MORD entered into a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for establishing a Monitoring Cell for RSETIs with Dr Heggade, for mentoring and monitoring all RSETI so that they can imbibe the values and ethos of RUDSETI.
