Udupi: MLAs seek special grant of Rs 100 crore for development from CM

Media Release

Udupi, Dec 18: Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna, joined by a group of first-time MLAs from the BJP and JD(S), submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during the assembly session in Belagavi, urging the government to sanction a special grant of Rs 100 crore each for the development of constituencies represented by first-time legislators.

The MLAs, including BJP state president B Y Vijayendra, expressed concerns about their inability to meet the developmental expectations of their constituencies. They highlighted urgent demands for infrastructure improvements and essential services, stressing the need for immediate financial support to address critical issues and initiate new developmental projects.

They noted that many ongoing projects in their constituencies have been delayed due to insufficient funding. Additionally, they cited challenges such as monsoon-related damages, agricultural losses, coastal erosion, and the need for repair and construction of hospitals, schools, roads, bridges, river embankments, drainage systems, streetlights, and other basic amenities.

The memorandum requested the government to allocate Rs 50 crore for the financial year 2023-24 and an additional Rs 50 crore for 2024-25, making a total of Rs 100 crore per constituency, to effectively tackle these pressing issues.

Prominent MLAs present during the submission included Gurme Suresh Shetty of Kapu, Gururaj Gantihole of Byndoor, Kiran Kumar Kodgi of Kundapur, Mahesh Tenginkai of Hubli-Dharwad Central, Dheeraj Muniraju of Doddaballapura, Cement Manju of Sakleshpur, Swaroop Prakash of Hassan, Nikhil Katti of Hukkeri, Siddu Patil of Humnabad, and Karemma Naik of Devadurga.
