Mangaluru: Court convicts 2 Bihari men to life imprisonment in 2020 Mulki murder case

Mangaluru, Dec 20: The 6th Additional District and Sessions Court in Mangaluru has sentenced two men to life imprisonment for the murder of 31-year-old Sharanappa.

The convicts, identified as Bihar natives Sunnibabu and Gallu Ram (also known as Sachin or Naveen), were found guilty under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and each fined Rs 10,000. Additionally, they were sentenced to one month of simple imprisonment and fined Rs 500 each for wrongful restraint under Section 341 of the IPC.

The murder occurred on January 30, 2020, around 10 pm, at Vanabhojana, Karnad village in Mulki taluk. The accused attacked Sharanappa with a knife in a fit of rage after he allegedly used offensive language to abuse them and their families.

The case was thoroughly investigated by Mulki station inspector Jayaram Gowda, with the support of ASI Umesh.

Public prosecutor Motilal Chowdari presented the state's case, securing the conviction. Judge Kantharaj S V delivered the judgment on December 20.
