Kasargod, Dec 25: A woman, who was living alone, and was forced to go without food after becoming ill since some days, suffered a painful death due to ant bite. The victim has been identified as Mangalapuratt Kunnel Usha (45) from Kelagam, Hosdurg in the district.

A tribal promoter had visited the village to collect information for being submitted to her department on Saturday, when he saw Usha having been covered by thousands of ants from tip to toe. He passed on information to the police. Usha was taken to an orphanage with the help of voluntary organizations, whereupon she was treated. However, she did not respond, and breathed her last within a few minutes.

It is learnt that Usha’s relatives had deserted her long back, and she had not consumed food since many days. Because of weakness caused by the non-consumption of food, she was lying alone in the house, when she became the victim of ants, it is learnt.
