Mangaluru, Dec 24: Member of Parliament for Dakshina Kannada constituency Captain Brijesh Chowta slammed the Opposition for disrupting Parliament during the recent winter session, accusing them of derailing the country’s progress.
"Disrupting Parliament is a grave insult to the Constitution. The opposition, unable to digest the development agenda laid by PM Modi, hijacked the session. The people of Bharat are watching," Chowta said at a press conference on Tuesday, December 24.
The press meet, titled "Samsadarondige Sansattina Samvada", will be a regular feature after every Lok Sabha session. Chowta highlighted key issues he raised in Parliament, including questions on coastal erosion, the progress of Mangaluru's smart city projects, Khelo India initiatives, and the stalled PMAY-U 2.0 due to Karnataka’s delay in signing the MoA with the Ministry of Housing.
“During the winter session, I raised 19 questions that shed light on important issues in Dakshina Kannada, such as the completion of 93 smart city projects worth Rs 2,429 crore and ongoing projects worth Rs 144 crore,” he said. He also pointed out that Mangaluru Port, despite being one of six major ports with a cruise terminal, lacks the necessary infrastructure development under central schemes.
Chowta also discussed his meetings with Union Ministers to push for the merger of Konkan Railways with Indian Railways and better connectivity for Mangaluru. He met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and others to seek support for key regional projects.
Chowta condemned the opposition’s behaviour, saying, “Their disruptive tactics are an insult to Parliament and the people. The Congress, still disrespecting the Constitution on its 75th anniversary, shows their desperation to derail Bharat’s progress.”
He concluded, “This is New India, where inclusive development is the focus. While the opposition destroys, PM Modi’s leadership envisions, empowers, and enables.”
