Manchester, Jan 12: AC Milan executive and former Manchester United legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic has addressed growing speculation surrounding the club’s pursuit of Marcus Rashford, calling the potential transfer ‘not an easy deal.’ Ahead of Milan's Serie A clash with Cagliari, Ibrahimovic praised Rashford's talent while acknowledging the complexities of any negotiations.
Rashford, who has hinted at seeking a ‘new challenge,’ has seen his future at Manchester United clouded under new manager Ruben Amorim. Despite having over three years left on his current contract, the England international is reportedly drawing interest from several European giants, including Barcelona, Napoli, PSG, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur.
"I know him very well," Ibrahimovic told Sky Sports. "I played with him when he was young; he is now an adult and established. He has done great things with United, and that is his club. How to convince him? Milan is one of the biggest clubs in the world—everyone wants to play here. This is a difficult deal, but we'll see if we can talk to him."
Adding fuel to the fire, Rashford’s brother and agent reportedly travelled to Italy this week to engage in preliminary talks with Milan's top executives. While no formal offer has been made, the meeting signifies Milan's strong interest in securing Rashford, who is said to be intrigued by the idea of joining the Rossoneri.
Rashford’s omission from Manchester United’s squad for their FA Cup showdown against Arsenal on January 11 has further stoked speculation about his future. The absence has led many to believe that significant developments regarding a transfer could be imminent.
Milan’s technical director Geoffrey Moncada and CEO Giorgio Furlani are reportedly exploring creative options, including a loan-to-buy agreement, to bring Rashford to San Siro. However, stiff competition from other European powerhouses and Rashford's substantial contract at Old Trafford pose major hurdles.
