Mangalore, Jan 3:
A girl aged about 10 was rescued from the residence of deputy conservator of forests, Mangalore division located in Lalbagh here on Tuesday January 3.

The labor department officials rescued the girl after they were tipped-off about her employment in the house as domestic help.

Officials of the labour department and Child Development Project under the department of Women and Child Development raided the house of Palaiah, deputy conservator of forests on Tuesday morning and rescued Renuka of Hubli district.

Though Palaiah was not present at the time of the raid, his wife was. On inspecting the house, the labour officials found Renuka who had been employed in their house as domestic help for the last one month.

Senior labour inspector U S Deshpande said that according to preliminary inquiries, Renuka was brought to the house to clean the house and the garden and to water the plants.

She is the daughter of Basavaraj and Ratnamma. They shifted from Hubli to Padil here in search of work, and later the father got a job in a nursery. Hence Renuka’s education in Hubli was discontinued.

Speaking to the media, Renuka, who was in tears, said that she was studying in third standard and wants to go back to school. She was made to work from 9 am to 2 pm and was offered Rs 600 as her monthly salary.

Senior labour Inspectors H P Jagannath and Krishnamma also took part in the raid operation. The central labour department got an alert call from the media, and passed on the message about child labour in this residence to assistant labour commissioner in Mangalore.

After the labour department officials conduct the age proof test at Wenlock hospital, she will be produced before the Child Welfare Committee and arrangements will be made to admit her back in school. It may be noted that though she dropped out of school two months back, there was no effort by the education department to get her back to school.

    Dinesh Poojary,

Now, be of use to humans and take up the children from the orphanage and run a center of your own - you can personally investigate with the children about the reality of them made to wear a cross. The case was filed in two police stations not one. You may not trust me but the police you surely will. Go and search yourself - my social work of making things easy is surely not for YOU of all people !

At the same time, pay the bus ticket loss suffered by the institution due to interference of your humanitarian thugs.

Children were not going for vacation. They were being carried to unknown remote place(i think bidar) by christian missionaries to teach them Christianity. When BD attacked the bus, they found CROSS SYMBOL on every one's neck.

No human accepts this act. This shows you are serving religion, not humanity..

    Dinesh Poojary,

"BD, VHP, RSS would definitely have come if they got the news. They are socially responsible organizations. They see humanity first, not religion. You have to learn from them. "

Have you not learnt a lesson yet ? How come your RSS/VHP/BD goons keeping a tab on children going home on vacation from an orphanage but not on girls such as this who are employed as housemaids ?

Humanity first not religion ? How come it happens religion first and not humanity first when attacking an orphanage that had all documents proper and in order ?

Did you check why they were not punished for obstructing humanitarian functioning of that orphanage ?

Proper investigation is required to find out was she forced or helped. If she was forced then who ever responsible should be punished. If she was helped, then now it is the responsibility of the person who gave tipped-off and people involved in this business, to look after her and her family till the child reaches permissible age.

It is very simple to give lectures about helping the needy..!!??? How many of us think about our neighbors...!!!?? Instead of rescuing the children like this..government has to take steps to prevent such things happening..is it possible in our corrupt India. It is simple to blame the employer. Yes I feel that the child's future is lost without study..!!??? what education these poor parents would have given to this child...!!???

It is easy to point fingers. What is wrong if this child is living better life than outside. If she goes out can she get this kind of shelter? food? Can Govt take care of them. Media know how to blame. If child labour doing good for one child why to stop that. Their pain will be doubled if they have to earn bread again. Whowver rescued her can take care of providing shelter good education?

Lydia Lobo, Kadri, i really appreciate your concern. I feel that the govt. has outsourced its jobs to BD, so here after we all can call a toll free number of BD for any problem rather than calling police. BD is the authorized NGO for any social concerns. Please anyone can publish the toll free number of BD for the convenience of all the citizens of Mangalore.

The labor department officials rescued the girl. That is most important. Such actions should be carried out on a daily basis to rescue children and to eradicate child labour.
Child labour is a crime against innocent children. Children are defenseless and if one would like to know about the psychological disorders children suffer from after getting rescued will find lots of surveys on the net.
Everyone shall be aware that child labour is a terrible crime committed daily, corruption is spreading further and further.
Children are a precious gift and they make our life so rich.
We shall defend children and enable them a safe environment.
May this dream and hope come true that there is no child labour any more.

    Best regards

Mr.Palaih , Dpty Con.of Forests is a very honest officer. This girl whom the press claims as a "domestic help " is totally untrue.Infact,Renuka (the alleged maid)was called in to the house that morning as she was hungry and roaming around the area in hunger.Mrs Paliah called her in and gave her food & water. The story of the Press is totally wrong and defamatory.

This is a very sad story. Children are the weakest members of every society and especially children must be protected .

It is an universal human right that children can grow in a safe and peaceful and stable environment.
Children have the right to dream, to play to laugh and to be happy.
Every child must have the constitutional right to go to school, to receive a good education and to learn languages.

Children are the future of every country and therefore is it in the interest of every society to give children hope, joy, dreams and to make them bright, educated and skilled.

Employing children (child labour) is a gruesome crime against humanity. Children are helpless and not able to defend themselves.

Everything must be done to eradicate child labour in India and other countries.

The Government of India should act immediately and people who commit this terrible crime against children must receive harsh punishment.

Every human being on earth must raise his/her voice and do what is possible to protect children and to enable them a good future without any exploitation.

This is like doing surgery without diagnosing the cause.

The children who are not good at studies may support their parents financially and earn their own livelihood when they growup.

What is the use in forcing such children to go to schools.

The government cannot reach out to each and every one hence it welcomes anybody starting a NGO. The condition is that the people who are running a NGO must be educated enough to give account of the funds received and how they are spent. Also, they must be legally registered.

Government grants funds towards certain works solicited and approved by an authorized department.

I request members of society to devote some time between your work and family so that you will have not resentment towards others who are doing. Moreover, you will understand how much dedication it requires and how much satisfaction it gives when you see the weeping people smile. You will never again blame NGOs to be doing it for conversion.

There is a tax relaxation allowed when you give charity to a registered organization I don't know exactly if it applies to donations given to NGOs - learned people, please enlighten.

Let us do some service to the less privileged in the society that we too are part of.

There are so many under aged children are working in many households. But why this particular Forest Officer is targeted is the question mark? Yet we all condemn the Child Labour instead these Protecting Official should make some other alternative for their livelihood too. They should also check the financial condition of these children Parents too

No doubt a great job done by the CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROJECT officials. But these department is responsible to take care of the childs rescued untill they get matured.

No parents wants to see their children starving at any time. poverty is the major sickness in many of us. parents capable of earning bread for their children dosnt have any problem and will not let their children to stay with someone or work for someone. Just think of the people who dosnt have strngth to take care of their chidren.
I am not at all trying to justify what we are seeing. It must be condemmed but same time we must extend out help to the needy and there may not be a case like this if each one of us understands our responsibility towards the society.

Please find out how the people lives in our neighborhood. Find out the people in our lane if we wont find anyone in our neighborhood.

Beleive in brotherhood and believe in humanity. Dont wait for the officials.
