Mangalore, Jan 5: “The two-day coastal business development summit held in city with a view that development should not be just Bangalore-centric, was a good initiative by the federation of Karnataka chamber of commerce and industry and this kind of initiative should spread all across the state to create more job opportunities”, said corporate affairs minister Dr M Veerappa Moily here on Thursday January 5.
He was speaking at the valedictory ceremony of two-day Coastal Business Development Summit held at T V Raman Pai Hall, here.
He added that when it comes to development factor, all should unite irrespective of caste, religion and political background. We mere unite to bring the problem to the forum, but this scenario should change and all should unite while solving the problem, he stressed. In an interesting note Moily opined that educational institutions producing graduates every year will not help the students, but they should organize a kind of ‘employment enhancement’ programme at all colleges to train the students for making them fit for professions of their choice.
When any developmental projects come to the region, one should understand the advantage of such industries and should develop the mindset of welcoming it, he said and added that earlier resentment of people in the region for many projects hindered the development of this region. Even today power shortage problem is faced only because lack of interest shown for power projects in earlier days, he added.
International Status to Mangalore Airport Soon: Moily
Earlier on his arrival at the Circuit House, Moily, addressing the reporters on the political issues said that NCP has nothing to do in the state and Congress is not worried about it. Congress is ready for election, but does not win the election through back door policy. About Lokayukta appointment row, Moily said the governor has asked to send the new lists of retired judges of Supreme Court as Bannur Mutt is already facing allegations. In the coming budget strong Lokpal bill will be passed, he said.
Moily also spoke about the long-pending issue of granting international status to Mangalore airport and said that all papers were ready and only the approval was pending, which would be announced soon.
Former union minister Dhananjay Kumar, who was also present, spoke on the Yeddyurappa-Eshwarappa issue over leadership, and said that Yeddyurappa was upset as he felt neglected by BJP. However, Yeddyurappa is like a 'guru' to Eshwarappa as he had brought him up in politics, and there was no need to blow the matter out of proportion, he added.
Deputy speaker Yogish Bhat, Coastal Development Authority chairman Nagraj Shetty and Lata Kini, president of KCCI among others were present.
