Bangalore: Alok Mohan Promoted as ADGP, Sent Abroad for Advanced Training

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Jan 6: Alok Mohan, who served as Inspector General of Police, (Western Range), Mangalore from August 2010 to December 2011 has been promoted as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Recruitment and Training, Bangalore. He took charge of the post on January 2.

Alok Mohan was transferred from Mangalore last month and Pratap Reddy was appointed as his successor. He was not given any post at the time of transfer.

Now, the state government has announced his appointment as the ADGP.

Alok Mohan, who takes the credit for the reduced crime rate in Mangalore during his stint as IGP, has been one of the most admired top police officers in the region. His 'talk less - act more' principle helped him in controling communal disturbances as well as other kinds of crimes in the Western Range.

The 51-year-old, 1987 batch IPS officer is considered as one of the most upright  police officers in the state.

Alok Mohan is now leaving for LKY School of Public Policy, University of Singapore and Kennedy School of Governance at Harvard University, USA for one year, to earn the prestigious Masters in Public Management Programme.

There are only four senior civil servants deputed by the government of India for this year-long course. The four officers are Alok Mohan, Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, secretary (tourism), Andhra Pradesh, Sanjeev Ranjan,  joint secretary (ministry of agriculture), government of India, and T K Anil Kumar, IAS, director (census), Bangalore, Karnataka.

They will be part of a select group of 25 senior civil servants from different countries. The officers will spend 6 months in University of Singapore and 6 months at Harvard University in Boston, US.

These officers will be exposed to world class Public Management Techniques which they can apply to improve the public management in different areas in the Government in India. They will also be attached to different ministries and departments of Singapore for 6 weeks during their stay there, and will have a first-hand experience of the working of the Singapore government and public service.

Alok Mohan is the first senior police officer from Karnataka to be selected for this course. He has also been on other international assignments like International Police Task Force of the United Nations Peace Keeping in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Senior Command Course of the British Police where he was with the Scotland Yard Police and London City Police, Advanced Management Programme of Maastricht University, Netherlands and Administrative Staff College of India.

I don't think he deserves all those heaps of praises. He's an ordinary man, with average policing skills. I know far better officers than him.

Mr. Alok Mohan is one of the most efficient Police Officers I have met. He is forthright, honest, kind to good people, ruthless to criminals but a caring loving husband and a kind father. He is a good friend too and my association with him throughout his tenure in Mangalore is a good and rewarding experience.

He is one of the very few officers - perhaps the only one to have been ed to go Harvard for higher studies where he has given an excellent account of himself.

Sure enough ere long he will take over as the D.G.P., Karnatake State and this promotion will go to him not as a gift but as a recognition of his fine services.

My good wishes are and will always be with Alok.

Mr. Alok Mohan is indeed a wonderful personality. I met him twice while he was the ASP of Udupi. At that time i was a student of MIT Manipal. When i went to meet him for the second time he welcomed me by saying : glad to welcome you once again", i was just a student but look at the respect he gives even to a ordinary person like me. MAY HE LIVE LONG AND SERVE THE NATION. Wish to meet Mr, Alok Mohan once again. Thank you sir for your kindness to me.

Alok Mohan is the brain behind success of Karnataka Police. He is a honest officer, who never bothers about Fame or name. But the credit usually goes Shanker Bidery who arrives at spot with his tummy after the catch. Hats off to Alok Mohan.

I have been fortunate enough to have few good friends from IPS,IAS, IFS & KAS fields who are known for their Mr.Clean Image beside being upright, efficient, progressive & unbaised in nature. Mr.Alok Mohan is one amongst them. Even his superiors like former DGPs' like Late Sreenivasan, Mr.Mariswamy & Mr.Achut Rao had expressed great admiration on Mr.Alok Mohan's capabilities on handling things assigned to him under all circumstances. I have been in association with Mr.Alok since the year 2004 during his assignments as Jt.Commissioner/ Addl.Commissioner for Bangalore, IGP Vigillence for BESCOM where he could unearth power theft & recover hundreds of crores of rupees to the exchequer & recently as IGP Western Range handling in job in a most efficient manner much to the public admiration, as I hear. This recognation of ing Mr.Alok for this prestigious Year long Course in Singapore & USA, that too out of only 4 in the Country & just 27 Worldwide is certainly well deserved one.
Mr.Alok, Myself & my family are proud of your achievements. Best in Future too.

Based on all comments sounds like a good offier. Wish him all the best in his studies which will be a great asset to Karnataka when he returns back to his job. Officer needs to have great people skills, understanding of law/order situation, supposed to be public servant without bias makes good officers which is lacking in Mangalore at the present time. Politiccal influence makes all corrupt and bias decision towards public and have a negative impact in people mind.

Alok Mohan is one of the finest officers that I have come across. Straightforward, honest to the core and a person who does not mince words.

I have no hesitation in stating that he will certainly be the Director General of Police within the next few years.

Well read - well mannered - well accomplished - dignified and a family loving man that Alok is - he will go a long way. Indeed we need good officers like Alok. I had the pleasure of meeting him and interacting with him several times and its a great experience. I have benefited by his presence in Mangalore and I have been enriched by my association with him. He will be away for eleven months and will return to Karnataka fortified with a fund of additional knowledge and experience.

I join scores of people in saying kudos to Alok.
