Dubai: Double Gold for Rikeetha Pereira in CBSE National Tennis Championship

Dubai, Jan 6: She's been making her parents, hometown and school proud ever since she was a little girl of eight. Now, a teenager, rising tennis star Rikeetha Pereira continues to win laurels and add more feathers to her already brimming cap.
After making her mark in tournaments in the US, Syria and several other countries, Rikeetha, a grade nine student of Indian High School, UAE, has now won two golds in her home country India. She bagged the top honours in both singles and doubles events in the recently held CBSE National Tennis Championship in Amravathi, Nagpur.
In the singles event, she won all her matches and rounded it off with a stunning win in the finals, defeating Dwani Kumar of Kensri School, Bangalore, 7-2.
She started off the tournament beating Cambridge School from Jalandhar 7-0 in the league phase, following it up with a win against Sawai Mansingh High School from Jaipur by a similar margin.
She topped the Pool A after beating Bala Vidhyamandir from Chennai 7-2 and thus entered the knockout stage.
She then routed Fahaheel Al Watanieh Indian Private School DPS from Kuwait 7-1 in the quarter-final, and Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School from Chandigarh 7-0 in the semi-final.
She is now getting ready to face the ITF Tournaments in UAE, Muscat and Qatar which will be held this month.
Daughter of Rudolph Pereira and Anitha Pereira, Rikeetha has a sister Ruveetha. The family hails from Byndoor parish.
Rikeetha has also made her mark in other fields like dramatics, singing and dance.
Earlier, she has represented UAE at the UK Grand Prix and emerged runner-up. She also won Nike Junior Tour Master in 2009 and qualified for the world tournament held in Dominican Republic, apart from winning ATF Tournament in Syria in 2010.
