Mangalore, Jan 6:
Bunder station circle inspector Vinay Gaonkar who was facing allegations of torturing a police informer and violating human rights has been given a clean chit in the matter.

Munir Ahmed (48), a resident of Bunder was an informer to Vinay Gaonkar, and later he started informing ACP Ravindra Gadadi. Munir at a press conference held on November 30, 2011, had also alleged Vinay Gaonkar of receiving Rs 38 lac as hafta through him from various elements like cattle transporters, scrap merchants, petrol and diesel adulterators, ganja peddlers.

Munir had complained that Vinay Gaonkar had dealt him physical torture at the police station for informing ACP Gadadi. He also had informed in the press conference that he made a writ petition in court and in turn the court had ordered the DG to investigate the case. Complaint was also lodged with the home minister, the Lokayukta and the Human Rights Commission by Munir.

The then IGP Alok Mohan after verifying the complaint by Munir directed DYSP Harishchandra to investigate the matter. With this regard, notice was sent to Munir on December 2, 7, 12 and 23 (2011) to appear for investigation, but he failed to do so. Munir was also allegedly receiving threat calls to not come to Mangalore.

With this, the investigation has been closed because of 'non cooperation and absence' of Munir during investigation procedures. The complaint has been marked as a false complaint. Also, complaints with the home minister, the Lokayukta and the Human Rights Commission also did not yield any fruit for Munir.
