Mangalore: Adventures Aplenty Ahead of National Youth Festival

Mangalore, Jan 9: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, Krishna J Palemar, inaugurated the Adventure Festival at Netravati river bank at Jappinamogaru in the city on Sunday January 8.
This event, which is open for the general public and the youth, is being held as part of the 17th National Youth Festival.
The festival, which has adventure sports on water, ground and air, is being organized by General Thimmaiah National Adventure Academy. The Adventure Festival will be on till January 11 for the public, and for the delegates coming for Youth Festival from January 12 to 16 free of cost.
State assembly deputy speaker, N Yogish Bhat, city police commissioner, Seemanth Kumar Singh, deputy commissioner, Dr N S Channappa Gowda, corporation commissioner, Dr Harish Kumar, and zilla panchayat chief executive officer, Dr K N Vijay Parkash, along with sports department joint director, Y R Kantarajendra, were present.
Para Sailing will be organized at Panambur beach from 8 to 11 am and 3 to 5.30 pm (charges Rs 200). Water sports like jet skiing (Rs 150), banana ride (Rs 100), and kayaking (Rs 50) will be organized near Kadekar Vaadurga Temple in Jappinamogaru here from 9.30 am to 12.25 pm, and 2 to 5.30 pm.
Ground adventure sports like rappelling, tyro line, traverse (free for public) will be organized at Nehru Maidan, said administrative officer of the academy, Jitendra Shetty, addressing a press conference. He added that services of 41 personnel are being availed for organizing these events, and that children below seven years of age will not be permitted to take part. He informed that safety and security have been given lot of importance in organizing these activities.
