Bangalore: CM Warns Cops: Don’t Bring Political Pressure for Transfers

Bangalore, Jan 9: Chief Minister D V Sadananada Gowda cracked the whip on Karnataka’s policemen by issuing a stern warning that his Government would not tolerate anybody trying to exert political pressure seeking transfers.

“I have a list of 500 policemen, who had brought political pressure to get transfers to places of their choice,” he said declaring that the Government would not tolerate or show any lenience to policemen trying to bring political pressure to get postings to places of their choice by exerting political pressure.

He was addressing the two-day IPS Officers’ convention in Bangalore on Monday.

Policemen are required to maintain law and order and investigate crimes. They should be prepared to work in any place that their superiors decide in the interest of maintaining law and order situation in the State, he said.

The Chief Minister underscored the need for coordination between police and judiciary to improve conviction rates.

As many as 150 public prosecutors, 4,000 police personnel and 60 forensic officials would be recruited in next six months, Gowda said, adding, there were 10,000 police vacancies in the state.

Voicing his concern over revival of the menace of Naxalism in some districts in the state, he said anti-naxal forces would be geared up to check naxal activities.

Later talking to reporters, he said opposition criticism that BJP ministers were not visiting the secretariat was not completely true.

At the same time, the Chief Minister said there was no need for ministers to be in Vidhana Soudha to ensure functioning of various departments.

The ministers should discharge their duties and be available to the officials and general public on specific days of the week, he said stressing that this would build better rapport between the public and the Government and also help in the smooth functioning of different departments.

The Chief Minister said the ministers should make themselves available for some days in their office while taking care to ensure that they toured the State and also attended to the grievances of their constituents.

It was also wrong to say that the departments were not functioning as the achievement in implementation of budget programmes varied from 60 per cent to 80 per cent so far. It is normal practice in almost all departments to clear pending bills during the last quarter, he said.

However, he said: “I have warned earring officers of dire consequences if they continue to show lethargy in implementation of various welfare programmes.”

I agree with Mr. Prabhu. We must introspect before commenting on any issues. Pastor E.W.Frank I know you very well in Ajjarkad, Udupi. But I feel you are very self centred than spiritual. Please do not call yourself Pastor when you comment on a public platform. Otherwise comment in such a way that all people agree with you.

Why you focus only on Karnataka,Gujarat?why not other states?Don't force open mouth with your stupid comment.

This is a contradiction. BJP has been trasferring police officers who challege roudies due to political pressure. Its tolerable who brings political infuence for a transfer rather than use political power to transfer officers from one place to another because they are efficient in controling BJP goondas. Mr. CM, could you explain why SP Patil was transfered from Konaje?

Pastor E. W. Frank, Udupi: Dear Pastor, CM of a state is not solve one case (Ref: Padmapriya case). Why dont you file a PIL case if you feel that particular about it?
MR DVS is definitely a better politicians compared to so many CMs of the present day politics of India.More over, we should be proud that he is from DK/Udupi. His speach as not to bring political reference to the Police Dept itself shows that he doesnt want to have a remote control of Govt over Police Dept.

There is no doubt that DVS has proved to be very efficient CM.His words and actions carry weight unlike BSY/HDK or recent earlier CMs.Proud to say that he is from DK. The highlighted remark(Dont bring political pressure for transfer) is only one of the many things which he spoke during this occasion. He has spoken in large about the wellbeing of the police force and commended the action of police in Karnataka.

Good speech. However police in Karnataka need to reach the masses. Even in this modern stage we have a lot of gap between the protector and the to be protected. I had taken a child to a police station premises for a look in Bangalore Wilson Gardens area. To my horror the policeman on duty in front of the outpost chased us in a inhuman manner. If they can do this to a small baby of 2 years please imagine how cruel they can be in real needs of people. Fear can not bring happiness. As Mr. Gowda rightly said there must be VISHWASA on the protectors. It can happen only when they are human in trying circumstances. Right now they are inhuman even in normal situations. Let them not think they are supermen with tax paying public.

    Dear Mr. Sadananda Gowda:

Politicians are controlling Police, that includes you too. You are no better than any other politicians. Better leave the Police alone to maintain the law and orders. Karnataka and Gujarat are the worst states in India, who will never permit the Police department to practice the law and order. Government should never interfere with the Police, then only there will be law and order. Why when the Christians are attacked the Politicians behind the attacks and control the Police according to their ways. Police are transfered without completing their tenure for no reason. It is so ugly to note it. You better do not interfere with the Police then see the Police department will shine. How tricky the Politicians are that Mrs. Padmapriya's report has not yet come, from Delhi, why? What are you thinking about it. Solve it if you are honest.
