Indian traveler highlights stark contrasts between Mumbai and Dubai

Mumbai, Feb 19: An Indian man, Yash, recently shared his observations after a trip to Dubai, comparing the city to his hometown, Mumbai. In a detailed Reddit post, he pointed out significant differences in infrastructure, civic sense, and overall quality of life, highlighting how Dubai outshines Mumbai in multiple aspects.

Having lived in Mumbai for over 40 years, Yash admitted that returning from Dubai made him realize how far behind his city lags. “When you come back from a developed country, the contrast is glaring. Mumbai’s infrastructure is practically non-existent, civic sense is negligible, and traffic discipline is chaotic. The pollution is so bad it burns your throat,” he wrote.

He described Mumbai as increasingly unlivable due to constant traffic congestion, reckless driving, and haphazard construction. While acknowledging that traffic in Dubai can be heavy, he noted that drivers there follow rules, stop at signals, and adhere to well-marked lanes, unlike in Mumbai.

The post quickly gained traction, with many Reddit users echoing his sentiments. Some criticized Mumbai’s lack of planning, overpopulation, and poor civic sense. Others pointed out that even cities in Sri Lanka or certain African nations might surpass Mumbai in terms of urban discipline and cleanliness.

One user commented, “Mumbai isn’t even competing with developed nations anymore. Even smaller countries seem to be better organized.” Another added, “I’ve traveled to 12 countries, and I’d rate them all better than Mumbai in terms of civic sense and road conditions.”

The discussion sparked a broader debate on urban development in India, with many agreeing that Mumbai, despite being the financial capital, struggles with basic infrastructure and urban planning.
