Mumbai, Feb 23: Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik on Saturday ordered the suspension of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus services to Karnataka after an MSRTC bus was attacked by pro-Kannada activists.
According to Sarnaik, the incident took place on Friday night when a bus traveling from Bengaluru to Mumbai was targeted near Belagavi. The attackers allegedly blackened the face of driver Bhaskar Jadhav and assaulted him.

Condemning the incident, the minister stated that bus services would not resume until the Karnataka government clarifies its stance on the matter.
Following his directive, MSRTC CPRO Abhijit Bhosale announced the indefinite suspension of all state transport (ST) buses from Kolhapur to Karnataka to ensure the safety of passengers and employees.
In the Belagavi and Chikkodi divisions, the North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) operates 90 and 125 buses, respectively, towards Maharashtra, while MSRTC runs 20 buses in Belagavi and 70 in Chikkodi.
The incident comes amid rising tensions along the Maharashtra-Karnataka border. Recently, a Karnataka transport bus conductor was assaulted for not responding in Marathi near Belagavi.
