Mumbai, Feb 24: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reaffirmed the state’s commitment to becoming a leader in artificial intelligence (AI) and technology, stating that advancements in digital infrastructure and AI-driven initiatives are accelerating governance and economic growth. Speaking at the NASSCOM Technology and Leadership Summit in Mumbai, he expressed confidence that Maharashtra would soon spearhead India's AI and technological revolution.

He highlighted the rapid digitization of government services, with most now available online, and noted the establishment of an AI Centre at Mumbai University. The state has also partnered with the World Economic Forum to set up an industry centre, further strengthening Maharashtra’s position as a tech-driven economy.

Outlining an ambitious economic vision, CM Fadnavis said Maharashtra aims to become a $1 trillion economy and is working with NITI Aayog to develop a new economic roadmap. A major focus is on transforming the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMRDA) into a hub for a $1.5 trillion economy.

Maharashtra leads in the data centre and fintech sectors, hosting nearly 60% of the country’s data centres. A dedicated data centre park is being developed in Navi Mumbai, and by 2030, nearly half of the state’s power generation will come from green energy sources. He also reiterated Mumbai’s position as the "Fintech Capital" of India.

Looking ahead to the 2027 Kumbh Mela in Nashik, CM Fadnavis revealed plans to integrate cutting-edge technology for crowd management, security, and immersive virtual experiences. The government is also ramping up the use of technology in agriculture to boost farmers' income. Under the ‘Agri-Stat’ initiative, the entire agricultural process is being digitalized, and the ‘Drone Shakti’ program aims to reduce costs by training farmers in drone-assisted agricultural spraying.

The chief minister also unveiled plans for the development of a futuristic "Innovation City" near the Navi Mumbai International Airport. Spanning 300 acres, this city will focus on AI, technology, and research, cementing Maharashtra’s role as a hub for innovation.

Additionally, Global Capability Centre (GCC) Parks will be established in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Nashik to attract top tech talent and investment. CM Fadnavis called on industry and technology experts to contribute ideas and be part of Maharashtra’s transformation into a global technology powerhouse.
