Kasargod, Jan 15:
Mohammed Nangi (53) of Doddanangi Mogral, who had been a captive of Somali pirates for six months was released recently.

Along with him, 21 persons including a resident of Thrissur have been released. Rohit (28) of Thrissur, was also on board the same ship. Others are all from North India.

Their ship was hijacked by Somali pirates on August 20, 2011. It was loaded with chemicals and was ferrying its cargo to Somalia from Oman. The Anglo Eastern ship named 'Fairchem Bogey' based out of Mumbai was hijacked in the Oman Sea. Later, they demanded money and repeated negotiation attempts by the company officials were futile.

Finally, the pirates released the hostages after being paid a ransom of 8 lac dollars on Thursday January 12.

Mohammed telephoned his family and informed them that he is safe and will reach home soon. The family members are eagerly awaiting his return.
