Bengaluru, Mar 4: The Karnataka State Contractors' Association met chief minister Siddaramaiah on Monday, urging the release of Rs 30,000 crore in pending bills. While assuring them of fund disbursement when feasible, the chief minister criticized the previous BJP government for the mounting dues.
Siddaramaiah pointed out that the previous administration issued tenders without allocating budget funds, leading contractors to take up work without financial backing. "The contractors demanded Rs 15,000 crore in April, but I explained that it was not possible. However, I assured them that we would release what we can based on the state's financial situation," he said.

In response to the contractors' plan to approach Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge if their demands were not met, Siddaramaiah stated, "They are free to meet anyone. Our decisions must align with our financial capacity."
He questioned how the unpaid bills had accumulated, attributing it to the BJP's mismanagement of funds. "Are we responsible for this?" he asked.
Addressing allegations of commission demands, the chief minister emphasized, "Contractors should not pay commissions. Both giving and receiving bribes are wrong. I have never asked for money to clear bills."
Siddaramaiah also outlined the legislative schedule, highlighting discussions on the Governor’s address and the state budget presentation on March 7. Budget discussions will extend until March 19, followed by his response in the Assembly and Council.
When asked about budget details, Siddaramaiah maintained confidentiality, saying, "The budget is a confidential document. I cannot reveal any details."
