Mumbai, Mar 4: Mumbaikars are set to experience rising temperatures, with the city expected to sizzle at 35°C today, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The temperature range for the day is forecasted between 19°C and 35°C.

On Monday, Santacruz recorded a high of 35.3°C, while Colaba registered 31.8°C, offering a brief respite from the previous week’s soaring temperatures. However, weather experts predict another surge, with daytime temperatures potentially reaching 37-38°C by the weekend.

Mumbai recently witnessed its hottest February in eight years, with temperatures soaring to 38.7°C on February 26. The unseasonal three-day heatwave prompted IMD to issue alerts for the coastal belt. Meteorologists have attributed the unusual rise in temperatures to the absence of winter rainfall, which typically helps regulate the city’s climate.

As per the IMD, Mumbai will continue to experience clear skies tomorrow, March 5, with temperatures ranging between 20°C and 32°C. Meanwhile, the city’s air quality index (AQI) stands at 152, falling under the ‘moderate’ category.

Looking ahead, the IMD’s seven-day forecast warns of an escalating heatwave, with daytime temperatures expected to exceed 38°C by March 9.

For historical reference, Mumbai recorded its highest-ever March temperature of 41.7°C in 1956, while the lowest for the month was 12.7°C in 2012.
