Mangaluru, Mar 9: The rector and management of St Aloysius institutions, along with the St Aloysius College Alumni Association, hosted the Eminent Aloysian Alumni Award 2025 at Fr LF Rasquinha Hall, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), on Saturday, March 8.
Speaking on the occasion, vice chancellor Dr Praveen Martis said, "Today, five extraordinary achievers are being honored with the Eminent Aloysian Alumni Award for their inspiring work and passion for serving humanity. It has been one year since St Aloysius became a deemed-to-be university. As part of our growth plans, we are looking to start a School of Law, with an online inspection already completed. We hope to begin in 2025. Additionally, we have plans to introduce an engineering program, and construction has begun for two new buildings at Centenary Grounds."











Rector Fr Melwin Pinto expressed his pride in the awardees and said, "For all five awardees, it feels like coming back home. Your success fills us with pride. You must have dreamed big to achieve what you have and overcome challenges with perseverance and struggle."
The Eminent Aloysian Alumni Award was presented to the following distinguished individuals:
- Kanyadi Sadashiva Shetty, president of Heramba Industries Limited and chief executive director
- Lucy Mariappa, CIO of the Year award winner
- Gurukiran, renowned music director
- Dr Oscar G Concessao, international award-winning architect
- James Vincent Mendonca, entrepreneur and philanthropist
Kanyadi Sadashiva Shetty, president of Heramba Industries Limited and chief executive director, remarked, "This award is nothing less than an Oscar, considering the dignitaries on the dais." He also shared his experience from his TEDx talk.
Lucy Mariappa said, "It is a great honor to accept this award with gratitude and humility. I thank my parents for shaping me into who I am today, encouraging me to dream big." She also recalled her experience participating in the All India Rifle Shooting competition, where she won a gold medal, and her role on the student council in driving positive change.
Dr Oscar G Concessao reflected on his journey, stating, "Success is not about avoiding failure, but embracing it."
Gurukiran shared, "St Aloysius is not only an institute of learning but also laid the foundation for what I have achieved today," fondly recalling his college days.
James Vincent Mendonca remarked, "During my college days, it wasn’t just about academics; St Aloysius instilled in me a sense of discipline, service, and integrity."
The event was welcomed by convenor NG Mohan, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Anil Kumar, president of the St Aloysius College Alumni Association.
