Mangalore, Mar 25: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) was recognised for its significant contributions in the fight against tuberculosis (TB) during the World TB Day 2025 celebrations held in Mangaluru.
The event was jointly organised by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka; Dakshina Kannada District Administration; Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat; and Yenepoya Nursing College at Yenepoya Deemed to be University in Deralakatte, Mangaluru. Observed on March 24 each year, World TB Day aims to raise awareness about tuberculosis prevention, treatment, and eradication under the National TB Elimination Programme.
During the event, Dr. H. R. Thimmaiah, District Health Officer; Dr M Vijay Kumar, chancellor of Yenepoya University; Dr Khatija Dilshad, District Nodal TB Control Officer; and other dignitaries highlighted the importance of collective efforts in combating TB. They emphasised the need for continued cooperation among government agencies, healthcare institutions, and corporate entities to achieve the goal of a TB-free society.

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has played a key role in supporting the National TB Elimination Program by donating two CB-NAAT machines to Dakshina Kannada district hospitals. These hi-tech machines enable accurate and timely diagnosis of TB, thereby improving patient outcomes.
Additionally, MRPL has provided millets and other nutritional support to TB patients as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, underscoring the critical role nutrition plays in patient recovery and overall health.
In appreciation of MRPL’s CSR efforts, the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka, honoured MRPL during the World TB Day programme. B Prashanth Baliga, general manager (CSR), and Dr Aravindan, manager (Medical Services), received a citation from Dr H R Thimmaiah, district health officer, and Dr M Vijay Kumar, chancellor of Yenepoya University, acknowledging MRPL’s substantial contributions.
World TB Day, observed every year on March 24, aims to educate communities and advocate for resources to eliminate tuberculosis. Collaboration between government bodies, healthcare providers, and corporate supporters remains essential to realize the goal of eradicating TB in India.
