Udupi, Jan 17: Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt and Sri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji of Puttige Mutt have ended their fast over the issue of non-inclusion of the latter in Paryaya rituals, it is learnt.

Both of them broke their fast after the intervention of chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda who was in the district to take part in the stage programme in connection with the event.

Sri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji, who felt slighted on being ignored by Sode Mutt for the Paryaya, launched protest fast on Tuesday January 17 morning. He had also alleged that Pejavar Swamiji, the senior-most among them, had not shown enough will power in resolving the issue. The latter had also faced similar charges from heads of other Mutts as well. Taking exception to the statements and denying the allegations, Pejavar Swamiji too began a counterfast the same day.

However, the Puttige swamiji will not attend the paryaya darbar. The chief minister is said to have promised to make efforts to resolve the dispute.

Sadananda Gowda, while speaking at the stage programme during the Paryaya event, said that he had urged both of the swamijis to come together and join in the Paryaya and forget their differences. He termed this mediation by him as one of most defining moments in his life after becoming the chief minister.

Pejawar formula

The Pejawar swamiji told the mediapersons that he presented a compromise formula to the fasting Puttige swamiji and Sode swamiji. The formula was not acceptable to both.

“I am not in a position to take the negotiations forward as all efforts made by me didn’t yield any positive result. However, I will be in touch with the Sode swamiji to find a solution,” he said.

The Pejawar swamiji suggested that the Puttige swamiji should give an undertaking in writing that he will not touch the idol of Lord Krishna in the sanctum sanctorum while performing pooja.

Another condition was that the Puttige swamiji should not administer ‘Sanyasa Deeksha’ to the boy proposed to be his junior. Instead, the ritual should be performed by Krishnapur Mutt swamiji Vidyasagarateertha Swami. However, the Puttige swamiji was against the idea since he felt that “the issue needs more time for a decision”.

The other formula recommended by the Pejawar swamiji was that the swamijis should vacate paryaya durbar after completion of half of the proceedings on Wednesday, so as to pave the way for the entry of Puttige swamiji to attend the durbar. But this was strongly opposed by the Sode swamiji who made his stand clear that if other swamijis move out of the durbar, he will walk out.

Earlier, Puttige swamiji Sugunendrateertha Swami said if the swamijis are adamant over the issue of not extending invitation to him for paryaya durbar, he will extend invitation to heads of all religions to the paryaya durbar during his next term.

He prefers to hold an all-religion durbar during his next paryaya, he said.

What is the Chief Minister's role in temples' and Swamiji's conflicts? He is an elected leader of a secular democracy. There is something fishy. This is the BJP's glorious tradition of mixing politics with religion and vice versa.

It is said that the puja and other pious acts done in one Brahmin house in an village or locality, brings spiritual benefits to the entire village or locality.

Every Brahmin boy should compulsorily learn Sanskrit and Veda along with the modern education.

Along with the modern professions, they should also do daily sadhanas at home and outside for his own spiritual welfare as also the spiritual welfare of the society.

People may comment sceptically, but this is true from my own experience.

For the respect and protection given by the society, we recite every morning-

    "Loka Samastha Sukhino Bhavanthu
    Samastha Sanmangalani Bhavanthu"

Dear Sachidanand Shetty, Mundkur/Dubai. Read your feeling and this is my opinion.

Humanity is the best religion as it has no boundaries. It is ego and selfishness drag the situation to polarisation.

A clean contrite heart is as holy as any religious place of worship. Service to mankind whom we can see is much better.

Any reader can judge your civility from the words used by you in your comments.

You are giving adverse comments against our saints who are adopting peaceful methods while you remain silent on the violent and stone age methods adopted by your people.

You will not develop [sudarega] unless you stop this double standard.

Pray Lord Krishna to bestow good thoughts on Udupi astha mattadhipathis and they may contribute unitedly whatever they could to the well being and happy life of the community. Keeping aside their personal ego may they propogate our CULTURE and DHARMA to make happy humans. With change of time there could be reform in our system. The SEERS should concentrate to upgrade the present Sanskrit College in Udupi into a higher status, probably affiliating it to Karntaka Sanskrit University, Bangalore. The poor students who enroll in this college may get free boarding and lodging with no tution fee and there could be encouragement for learning VEDAS and daily rituals which can be practiced and so that the systematic poojas are performed in all the temples.

There is always a clash between liberals and fundamentalists. The latter wants to exert authority by citing age old practices and belief. The liberals know the way the wind is blowing and adopts to changing needs. The duty of mutt heads is to propagate religion and where ever people need, they should go. When world is shrinking and one can call any one at will, holding grudge against foreign travel, does really show how regressive these mutt heads are. When Tirumala can setup temples over the world, ISKCON can do wonders with their acumen, Udupi mutts have lagged in their duties.

Even if Sri Madwacharya is present today, his concern for people would have over weighed other practices. Even Lord Krishna turned to shower bliss for kanakadasa and when will Astha mutt heads will change to show divinity to fellow indians who toil day & night in over seas and far off places.

If crossing the seas is a sin, this sin is first committed by Lord Hanuman and then by Lord Rama himself.

My humble appeal for mutt heads is to bury their ego and join to uplift our people and not spend time in these childish issues. I wish Yashodamai is here to scold these kids to care for people and not themselves.

But now it has been proved once again that even “Sanyaasi Jeevan” too not exception to any controversy. I can’t go to Mecca or Madinah since I am not a Muslim. I want to go to Vatican City but I am not a Christian. I want to take dip in Ganga Holy River but it is too polluted. I can’t go to Himalaya Tapovan since it is too cold. Finally I decided to go back to my home since it is very peaceful though we have usual controversies. So we have learn a lesson that “Live like Sanyaasi or Fakir or Priest or Mullah but “Goddess Controversy Devta” will stay in your home only

Dear DVS, though we need blessings from all Gods, but better stay away from all Mutt, Church or Mosque Issues. Instead you send your Cultural Minister to intervene. All Gods will stay in each & every body’s heart even without any Temple, Mutt, Church or Mosque too. This kind of controversy will lead to more controversy when any Top Minister gets involved

Swamiji is an elder to any matha. When kids of that matha come out it is the duty of any elder to acompany the kids and and guide the kids in right path. These rules (crossing ocean) are done when all kids of that matha
were with in country. But during corse of time, sons and doughter of the math started coming out of the country. Obviusly swamiji being elder of the matha accompanied kids to perform elderly duties. He has every right to on the top most
respectable position like all other swamijis. Because any matha can accure only with people not by rules. People like us cross the ocean for better life and left alone without any elders. But swamiji came to our families accepting our plus and minus became present elder along with our path of life. I would like to remember even Raghavendra swamiji had his problems during cource of his life . But today we after many many years we pray to him . Same way swamiji is within our lifes and hearts for ever. I wish swamiji sucess with whole heart.
