Brazil, Apr 3: Indian boxer Jadumani Singh Mandengbam showcased his grit and skill by advancing to the 50kg semifinals of the World Boxing Cup in Foz do Iguacu, Brazil. The 20-year-old reigning national champion achieved a hard-fought 3-2 split decision victory against Ellis Trowbridge of Great Britain, last year’s silver medallist, in the quarterfinals held late Tuesday night.

Jadumani will now face Asilbek Jalilov of Uzbekistan, a former Asian U-22 champion, in what promises to be a thrilling semifinal clash.

However, India’s journey at the World Boxing Cup has also seen setbacks, with three other boxers bowing out of the tournament.

Asian Games medallist Narender Berwal (+90kg) put up a valiant effort against Kazakhstan’s Saparbay Daniyal, narrowly losing 2-3 despite winning unanimously on the first board.

Nikhil Dubey (75kg) suffered a 0-5 loss against local favourite Kaue Belini, while Jugnoo (85kg) exited the tournament after a 1-4 split decision loss to France’s Abdoulaye Traore.

India's campaign continues with Manish Rathore (55kg) set to face Paris Olympian Yusulf Chothia of Australia, Hitesh (70kg) preparing to take on Italy’s Gabriele Guidi Rontani, and Abhinash Jamwal (65kg) squaring off against Germany’s Denis Bril.
