US launches fresh airstrikes across Yemen; civilian death toll from earlier attack rises

Daijiworld Media Network - Sanaa

Sanaa, Apr 13: The United States has intensified its military campaign in Yemen, launching 10 fresh airstrikes across multiple provinces late Saturday night, targeting Houthi-controlled areas, according to reports by Houthi-run al-Masirah TV.

The strikes hit the Al-Salem district in Saada province, Al-Munira in Hodeidah, and the Vocational Institute in Al-Sawma'ah district of Al-Bayda province. So far, no casualties have been officially reported from these latest strikes.

The US Central Command confirmed on social media that operations against the Houthis are ongoing. Washington resumed its air campaign on March 15, citing the need to deter Houthi attacks on Israeli and US naval assets in the Red Sea.

Meanwhile, the civilian death toll from earlier US airstrikes on Thursday in Hodeidah has climbed to 14, including several women and children, with 15 others injured. Houthi-controlled health authorities said the fatalities increased after some of the severely wounded succumbed to injuries in hospitals. The airstrikes reportedly struck residential homes in the Amin Muqbil neighbourhood, triggering outrage as distressing footage circulated online.

The Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen, have declared they would suspend operations if Israel ends its Gaza offensive and allows vital humanitarian aid into the besieged strip.
