Hisar, Apr 14: Marking Ambedkar Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday laid the foundation stone for the new terminal building at Maharaja Agrasen Airport in Hisar and flagged off the first flight to Ayodhya, enhancing Haryana’s aviation connectivity.

The terminal project, worth over Rs 410 cr, includes a modern passenger terminal, cargo facility, and air traffic control tower. Scheduled flights from Hisar will now operate twice a week to Ayodhya and thrice weekly to Jammu, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Chandigarh.

Addressing a massive public rally, PM Modi said, “Before 2014, India had only 74 airports. Today, that number has crossed 150. We fulfilled the promise that even those wearing slippers will fly.”

He hailed the day as a “Diwali” for the marginalised and paid tributes to Dr B R Ambedkar. “The BJP works for rapid development of Dalits, poor, backward and marginalised communities,” he added.

PM Modi also announced multiple infrastructure projects worth Rs 10,000 cr during his visit, including an 800 MW thermal power unit at Yamunanagar’s Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant and a Compressed Biogas Plant in Mukarabpur under the GOBARDhan scheme.

He later inaugurated the 14.4 km Rewari Bypass built under Bharatmala Pariyojana at a cost of Rs 1,070 cr, aimed at easing traffic congestion and boosting regional development.
