Mumbai, Apr 19: In a significant breakthrough, Mumbai police have arrested a woman dentist from Kolkata in connection with a child trafficking case involving two minors. The arrest, made by officials from Wadala Truck Terminus police station, led to the rescue of a two-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl.

The case dates back to May 2024, when a contractor lodged a complaint alleging that his son-in-law and toddler grandson had gone missing. During the investigation, it emerged that the child had been sold for Rs 1.6 lac to a group comprising Asma Shaikh, Sharif Shaikh, and Asha Pawar.

Further interrogation of the suspects revealed that the boy had been handed over to a woman at Bhubaneswar railway station in Odisha. On April 5, police traced her to a dental hospital in Bhubaneswar and discovered that she was based in Kolkata.

Acting swiftly, the police team traveled to Kolkata, where they apprehended the accused, Reshma Santosh Kumar Banerjee. Both the missing boy and another unidentified three-year-old girl were rescued during the operation.

The accused was brought to Mumbai and formally arrested on April 13. Authorities continue to investigate the full scope of the trafficking network.
