Chennai, Sep 16: Actress Rashmika Mandanna has been confirmed to portray legendary Carnatic singer MS Subbulakshmi in the upcoming biopic MS – A Legacy On Screen.

The makers unveiled the first look of the film ahead of an event scheduled at The Music Academy in Chennai on Wednesday, September 16, marking the 110th birth anniversary of MS Subbulakshmi.

Rashmika shared the first poster on social media, expressing her honour at portraying the Bharat Ratna awardee. The makers are expected to reveal further details about her look and the film during the event.

Actor Kamal Haasan will attend the launch as the chief guest. The announcement comes after earlier reports had suggested that Sai Pallavi was being considered for the role.

MS – A Legacy On Screen will be directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, with Anirudh Ravichander composing the music. The film will be jointly produced by Allu Aravind, Rockline Venkatesh and Bunny Vas and will explore the life and legacy of MS Subbulakshmi.

Born Madurai Shanmukhavadivu Subbulakshmi in Madurai on September 16, 1916, MS Subbulakshmi became one of India's most celebrated Carnatic vocalists. Her career spanned nearly seven decades, during which she helped take Indian classical music to audiences across the world.

She performed internationally, including in Europe and North America, and also sang at the United Nations General Assembly. Her renditions of Sanskrit hymns became widely popular and remain part of devotional listening for generations.
