Goa, Apr 27: In a tragic incident in Candolim, an elderly British tourist lost his life after being knocked down by a rent-a-car, while his wife sustained injuries. The driver of the car, identified as 48-year-old Vicky Omprakash Jain from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The accident occurred on Friday near the Fisherman's Cove Restaurant in Candolim when Jain, traveling from Sinquerim to Calangute, lost control of the vehicle and struck the elderly couple, Harish Solanki (86) and his wife Chandrakanta (81), who were walking along the roadside.

Both pedestrians were severely injured and rushed to the Candolim Primary Health Centre. However, due to the critical nature of their injuries, they were subsequently referred to the Goa Medical College (GMC) hospital in Bambolim. While Harish Solanki succumbed to his injuries later in the evening, his wife Chandrakanta is currently undergoing treatment.

The Calangute police, following a complaint, have registered a case against Vicky Jain and arrested him. The police have also contacted the family of the deceased and are conducting further investigations. PSI Vignesh Naik is handling the case under the supervision of Calangute Police Inspector Paresh Naik.
