Unidentified man found dead in Kudupu: 15 accused arrested in assault case

Mangaluru, Apr 29: In a major breakthrough in the case of an unidentified dead body found near Bhatra Kallurti Temple in Kudupu, the city police have arrested 15 persons in connection with the brutal assault that led to the victim’s death. Police commissioner Anupam Agrawal disclosed the details during a press meet held on Monday. 

The incident came to light on April 27 at around 5:30 PM when Mangaluru Rural Police Station received information about a body found in Kudupu. Local police, senior officers, and forensic teams immediately visited the scene and conducted a detailed inspection. As there were no visible major injuries on the body, a post-mortem was recommended by forensic experts to determine the cause of death. 

 



 

Based on the initial complaint, a case of Unnatural Death (UDR) with suspicion was registered at the Mangaluru rural police station. The body was shifted to Wenlock District Hospital for autopsy. Efforts were launched to identify the deceased, including wide circulation of the victim’s photograph and analysis of CCTV footage and mobile tower dump data. 

The investigation revealed that on April 27 at around 3:00 PM, during a cricket match held near Bhatra Kallurti Temple grounds, the deceased was assaulted by a group of individuals using hands, sticks, and by kicking him. Although bystanders tried to intervene, the group continued their assault, resulting in the victim's death. According to the preliminary post-mortem report, the cause of death was internal bleeding and shock caused by multiple blunt force injuries to the back and lack of medical aid. 

Based on a complaint filed by Deepak Kumar (33), a resident of Kulshekar, police registered a case. 

Commissioner Anupam Agrawal revealed that 15 of the accused have been arrested so far. The arrested individuals are: Sachin T (26), Devadas (50), Manjunath (32), Saideep (29), Nitesh Kumar alias Santosh (33), Dheekshith Kumar (32), Sandeep (23), Vivian Alvares (41), Sridatta (32), Rahul (23), Pradeep Kumar (35), Manish Shetty (21), Dhanush (31), Dheekshith (27), and Kishore Kumar (37), all residents of various areas in and around Kudupu, Mangaluru. 

Police suspect the involvement of more than 25 individuals in the case. Efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the remaining accused listed in the FIR and those identified through further investigation.

Mangaluru, Apr 29: The identity of a youth aged between 25 and 30 years, who was found dead under suspicious circumstances near Kudupu, is yet to be established. Police from the Mangaluru rural station have intensified their efforts to trace his identity.

Information about the deceased has been circulated to various police stations across the state. The youth was found wearing blue jeans but was shirtless. Police suspect that he might have fallen and sustained fatal injuries either due to intoxication or following an altercation.

A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Mangaluru rural police station. The body was discovered on Sunday evening along the Panjirel Road near Kudupu, with injuries that suggested possible assault.

Police indicated that the deceased might have been employed in railway construction or building work.

Expressing concerns over the death, the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Minority Wing and the CPI(M) district unit have demanded the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident, citing the presence of several suspicious circumstances surrounding the case.
