Bangalore, Jan 20: The liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) consumers, who were worried over the prospect of having to wait for long to get new cylinders in place of the exhausted ones, heaved a sigh of relief on Thursday January 19 evening, after learning that the owners of LPG tankers of southern states, who were on strike since a week demanding fulfillment of various demands, withdrew their protest.

The lorry owners decided to withdraw the strike, after they got positive signs relating to their demands in the discussions they had with oil company representatives.

These vehicle owners had called for strike since midnight on January 13 all over south India, demanding to meet their demands relating issues like tender renewal, hike in fare etc. All the vehicles carrying LPG in the southern states stayed off roads since then, including about 800 vehicles in the state.

The tanker owners are pleased with the favourable response of the companies, which had earlier remained stubborn on not considering the demands. The lorry owners association said that vehicles carrying LPG would begin plying since Friday.
