Mangaluru, Apr 28: Despite the soaring temperatures along the coastal region this year, there is relief for Mangaluru city residents as there is no threat of a drinking water shortage. Typically, during April and May, Mangaluru experiences water scarcity, with supply rationed due to reduced storage at the Thumbay vented dam, which supplies drinking water to the city. Water rationing often leads to supply once every two, or even three days, causing inconvenience in many areas.
However, this year, the availability of water at the Thumbay vented dam is abundant. Additionally, several other dams along the banks of the Netravati river also have ample water storage. Previously, Thumbay dam was the primary source for drinking water. Now, dams such as Biliyur, AMR, and Jakribettu are also fully stocked.

Many farmers along the Netravati riverbanks are currently relying on the river for irrigation. In earlier years, when water scarcity signs appeared, district authorities used to cut off the power supply to farmers' pump sets. However, this year, the water level in the river is sufficient, allowing farmers to remain worry-free.
As of April 28, the AMR dam has 18.90 meters of water, the Thumbay dam has 5.70 meters, the Harekal Adyar dam has 1 meter, the Biliyur dam has 4 meters, the Jakribettu dam has 3 meters, the Malavoor dam has 1.50 meters, and the Iruvail dam has 1.75 meters of water.
