Washington, May 2: Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, the United States has reiterated its unwavering support for New Delhi in its fight against terrorism. State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce, addressing the media on Thursday, affirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi “has our full support.”
“We are closely monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan,” Bruce said, adding that Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been actively engaged with both nations in recent days. On Wednesday, Rubio held separate talks with Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Bruce stated, “As the President articulated to Prime Minister Modi last week, the United States stands strong with India against terrorism.” She emphasized that the US is maintaining open channels with both countries “at multiple levels.”
Secretary Rubio has urged both sides to “work towards a responsible resolution that maintains long-term peace and regional stability in South Asia,” Bruce added, stressing the need for diplomatic dialogue amid the current volatile situation.
The reaffirmation comes in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, that claimed the lives of 26 civilians and escalated cross-border tensions. With unprovoked firing from Pakistan reported for eight consecutive days along the Line of Control, New Delhi has stepped up its military preparedness while receiving strong international backing, especially from Washington.
