New Delhi, May 3: Union minister of state for information and broadcasting L Murugan on Saturday released a first-of-its-kind White Paper analyzing the explosive growth and transformation of India’s live entertainment sector.
Unveiled in the presence of I&B secretary Sanjay Jaju, the report highlights the sector’s rising global profile, driven by international acts like Coldplay’s shows in Ahmedabad and Mumbai, and surging participation from Tier 2 cities.
“This is no longer a niche sector,” the ministry said, calling live entertainment a strategic lever in India’s creative economy, which now creates 2,000 to 5,000 temporary jobs per major event.
The White Paper, commissioned by the ministry of Information and Broadcasting, also outlines key trends including:
• Event tourism boom: Nearly 5 lac attendees travelled specifically for live music events.
• Luxury ticketing growth: VIP experiences and curated access have seen over 100% YoY growth.
• Regional festivals rise: Multi-city tours and local events are pulling crowds from smaller towns.
The report also marked the launch of the Statistical Handbook on Media & Entertainment Sector 2024-25.
Officials say India is well on track to become one of the world’s top five live entertainment destinations by 2030, opening up avenues for economic growth, tourism, and global cultural exchange
