Mangalore, Jan 22: A two-day national level seminar on ‘Recent Advances in Chemical Sciences’ will be organized by the department of chemistry at Eric Mathias Auditorium, St Aloysius College, on Monday January 23. This is an attempt to bridge the knowledge gap by exposing the staff, research scholars, and post graduate students of chemistry to a fund of knowledge, directed by experts in the field, stated a press release.

Dr B S Sherigara, former vice chancellor, Kuvempu University, Shimoga, will inaugurate the seminar and deliver the key note address on ‘Chemistry—Science of Life’. Fr Swebert D’Silva, principal, St Aloysius College, will preside over the function.

The two-day seminar includes a talk facilitated by eminent scientists and expert teachers like Dr A Nithyananda Shetty, Dr S Kabilan, Dr Michael Rajamathi, Dr I N N Namboothiri, and Dr S G Prapulla, from various institutes.The resource persons will guide the participants in modern areas of chemistry like fuel cells, designing organic synthesis, 2D nanomaterials, graphene and its inorganic cousins, designing organic synthesis, chemistry for life sciences, multinuclear and multidimensional NMR, and modern theories of co-ordination complexes.

Dr Cletus D’Souza, professor and chairman, department of studies in biochemistry, University of Mysore, will be the chief guest of the valedictory programme. Dr Leo D’Souza, director, Laboratory of Applied Biology, St Aloysius College, will preside over the function.
