Sanquelim, May 15: In a daring incident that has sparked political controversy, unidentified burglars broke into the BJP’s office in Sanquelim—Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s home constituency—and allegedly made away with two mobile phones, police officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The theft, though minor in nature, has drawn sharp criticism from the Opposition, who are questioning the effectiveness of law enforcement in the state, especially under the Chief Minister, who also holds the crucial Home portfolio.

According to police sources, the break-in occurred on Sunday when the office was locked. A police officer, requesting anonymity, stated, “Two men trespassed into the BJP office and stole two mobile phones. CCTV footage helped us identify and detain two suspects from Karnataka. The investigation is currently underway.”
Following a complaint lodged by BJP workers, an FIR has been registered, and the case is being actively probed.
Reacting strongly to the incident, the Goa Congress has accused the ruling BJP of failing to maintain basic law and order. “If the Chief Minister’s own party office isn’t safe, what can common citizens expect?” asked Amarnath Panjikar, Chairperson of the GPCC Media Cell.
He further alleged, “This government has lost its grip on governance. Every other day, there are reports of thefts and crimes. Despite tall claims, the Sawant government has failed to ensure public safety.”
Calling for immediate action, the Congress leader demanded an urgent upgrade of local police infrastructure, both in terms of manpower and resources.
While the police continue their investigation, the burglary has already turned into a political flashpoint, highlighting the deepening concerns over law enforcement in Goa ahead of the upcoming elections.
