Bomb threats target Mumbai Airport, Taj Hotel; cops on high alert

Mumbai, May 17: Tension gripped Mumbai on Friday after the Airport Police received a bomb threat email targeting the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel.

According to police sources, the threat mail was sent directly to the official email ID of the Mumbai Airport Police. The sender cited the ‘unjust’ hangings of terrorists Afzal Guru and Saibabu Shankar (also known as Saivakkun Shankar) as the motive, and threatened imminent attacks on the two prominent city landmarks.

Mumbai Police immediately swung into action, launching an intensive investigation. Security teams carried out thorough checks across both locations, though no suspicious object or activity has been found so far.

Efforts are currently underway to trace the origin of the email and identify the individual responsible. Security has been tightened across key infrastructure points in the city, including the airport and hotel, with heightened vigilance in public areas.

This threat comes just days after another bomb scare on May 13, when an anonymous email warning of an explosion within 48 hours was received by an official at the Disaster Management Control Room in Mantralaya, the administrative headquarters of the Maharashtra government. A comprehensive search of the premises yielded no suspicious findings. The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) was informed, and a case was registered at the Marine Drive Police Station.

Authorities remain on high alert as investigations continue.
