New Delhi, May 17: The government announced plans to roll out a digital platform aimed at streamlining the submission of documents for trade remedy investigations. The upcoming system is expected to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accessibility for businesses involved in such cases.
The announcement coincides with the 8th Foundation Day of the directorate general of Trade Remedies (DGTR), which has been at the forefront of protecting Indian industry from unfair trade practices since its establishment. Since 1995, India has initiated more than 1,200 trade remedy investigations, with the DGTR ensuring most are completed within a year to provide timely support to affected sectors.
Recent cases handled by the DGTR have shielded critical industries, including solar energy and advanced materials like solar cells and copper wire rods, from underpriced imports and unfair subsidies.

At the Foundation Day event, the director general commended the agency’s officers for their dedication and highlighted DGTR’s interventions in mitigating sudden import surges through safeguard duties and import caps—particularly in sectors like palm oil and metallurgical coke—helping stabilize domestic markets.
To assist smaller enterprises, DGTR launched a dedicated Helpdesk in 2019. This initiative has empowered micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by providing guidance on application procedures and technical data requirements.
In its international role, DGTR’s Trade Defence Wing has successfully challenged unfair trade remedy actions by foreign authorities, securing reductions or complete withdrawal of duties on Indian exports.
As it enters its eighth year, DGTR continues its mission to uphold fair trade, protect domestic industries, and adapt swiftly to the shifting dynamics of global commerce, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry affirmed.
