Mumbai, May 26: In a chilling incident that highlights the dangers of road rage, a 34-year-old motorist was fatally stabbed in broad daylight on Mumbai’s Eastern Express Highway near Ghatkopar on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased, identified as Zeeshan Rafique Shaikh, a resident of Park Site in Vikhroli, was reportedly en route to Kurla with a friend in a Waggon R when the tragic altercation occurred.
According to police sources, the confrontation began after a youth riding an Activa scooter with a woman pillion overtook Shaikh's car aggressively near the Traffic Chowki under the Vikhroli flyover. Angered by the move, Shaikh is said to have shouted at the rider. The scooter came to a halt, and a heated verbal exchange ensued between the two parties.
In a sudden escalation, the scooter rider allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Shaikh in the chest before fleeing the scene with the pillion rider. The horrifying attack took place in full public view on one of the city’s busiest highways.
Shaikh’s friend, who witnessed the stabbing, immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him brought dead.
Speaking to reporters, an officer from Pant Nagar Police Station confirmed that a murder case has been registered, and efforts are underway to identify and nab the accused. CCTV footage from the area is being scanned, and eyewitnesses are being questioned.
Shaikh was reportedly involved in the second-hand car resale business and was known in his locality. His sudden death has left the community in shock.
Police are appealing to the public to come forward with any information that could assist in identifying the accused. A manhunt is currently underway.
This latest episode of violence on Mumbai’s roads has reignited concerns over rising cases of road rage and public safety. Authorities have promised swift action to bring the perpetrator to justice.
