Mumbai, May 31: In two tragic incidents in Mumbai, a man died and another was injured after a car parking lift collapsed in Borivali West on Saturday, while a woman succumbed to injuries following a balcony collapse earlier this week in Byculla.
The car lift mishap occurred around 11 am at the 21-storey Prathamesh Building on Link Road. According to Mumbai Fire Brigade officials, the mechanical lift plunged into a 7-metre-deep pit, trapping 30-year-old Shubham Madamlal Dhuri and 45-year-old Sunjeet Yadav.

Both victims were rushed to the nearby BMC-run Shatabdi Hospital, where Dhuri was declared brought dead. Yadav, who suffered head injuries, is said to be in stable condition. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse.
In another unfortunate incident in Byculla West, a 35-year-old woman, Naziya Khan, died two days after she was severely injured when a fifth-floor balcony at Ashraf Manzil collapsed on Wednesday. Khan, who suffered multiple injuries and head trauma, was admitted to Nair Hospital by the Mumbai Fire Brigade. She succumbed to her injuries on May 30.
Another woman injured in the same collapse is currently under treatment and reported to be in stable condition.
Ashraf Manzil is a MHADA-cessed building, falling under the category of old, rent-controlled structures built before 1969. The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of ageing buildings in the city.
Civic authorities are probing both cases to determine structural lapses and responsibility.
