Mangaluru, Jun 2: Carmel School began the new academic year on June 2 with a well-organised and inspiring inaugural assembly.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp by Sr Roseveera, the principal; Dr Sr Prem D’Souza, the administrator; Sr Premal, the vice principal; staff coordinators Shanthi, Sr Supreetha, and Sonia; and student representatives Sarah and Poorvi. This act symbolised the transition from darkness to light and from ignorance to knowledge, setting the tone for the academic journey ahead.
The prayer service that followed was the highlight of the morning. It incorporated a thoughtful blend of symbolism and reflection. Various colours were used within the service to represent different virtues, such as peace, hope, courage, and kindness. These colours served as reminders of how God works in diverse ways in our lives offering guidance, healing, love, and inspiration.
The parable of the cracked pot, which was shared during the service, beautifully conveyed the importance of embracing one’s uniqueness and recognising beauty even in imperfections.

Grade 10 students took the lead in welcoming the school community through an acrostic poem using the word ‘WELCOME.’ Each letter stood for a meaningful resolution for the academic year 2025–26.
The poem extended a warm greeting to the new principal, administrator, faculty members, and fellow students. Hazel Rodrigues and Lavish also offered a cordial welcome to Sr Roseveera, expressing the school’s joy in having her leadership and presence.
In her address, Sr Roseveera encouraged students to make the most of their school life with enthusiasm. She shared three key messages: to always aim high in academics, behaviour, and co-curricular activities; to believe in oneself without comparing with others; and to stay consistent and never give up, even in the face of difficulties.
She reminded students that the day marked the beginning of a fresh phase in their learning journey and encouraged them to create lasting, joyful memories.
Dr Sr Prem D’Souza followed with her address, sharing an engaging story that brought out valuable lessons for students. She spoke about the importance of developing good habits such as staying prepared in advance, thinking positively, and continuously exploring new ideas. Emphasis was placed on showing respect to teachers, handling conflicts with maturity, and making the best use of one’s abilities to grow.
She encouraged students to manage their time well, seek guidance when necessary, and remain kind and composed even under pressure. Her message concluded with the quote, “I know I’m intelligent because I know nothing,” by Socrates.
The new faculty members were introduced and warmly welcomed, and the day’s assembly was smoothly compered by Sonia, who also introduced the principal to the school community.
