Mumbai, Jun 9: Amidst talks of a Thackeray family reunion, fresh speculation is growing over a possible reunion of the two factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), nearly two years after their split.
With the party’s 26th Foundation Day approaching, leaders from both camps have hinted at a possible patch-up. Amol Mitkari, a close aide of Ajit Pawar, suggested the siblings Ajit Pawar and Supriya Sule could reunite before Ashadi Ekadashi (July 6). This idea was first floated by Sharad Pawar, who said the final decision rests with Supriya Sule. While leaders have avoided direct confirmation, no denials have been made.

A reunion could reshape Maharashtra politics, especially amid rumours that the BJP is trying to isolate Uddhav Thackeray’s faction ahead of civic polls. A united NCP could also challenge Eknath Shinde’s hold over Mumbai’s Marathi vote base.
The two factions will hold separate Foundation Day events in Pune on June 10, with Sharad Pawar addressing his supporters in the morning and Ajit Pawar his faction in the evening. Ajit Pawar split the party in 2023 to join the BJP-led government and remains Deputy CM after the 2024 elections.
As Maharashtra’s political future hangs in balance, the Pawar family’s moves will be closely watched.
