Mumbai, Jun 12: Following the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171, actor Salman Khan and the organizers of the Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL) cancelled their scheduled press conference on Thursday in Mumbai, choosing to stand in solidarity with the grieving families.

Salman Khan, recently announced as the face of ISRL, was set to appear alongside league co-founders Veer Patel and Ishan Lokhande. However, just as the event was to begin, news of the London-bound Air India flight crash broke, prompting organizers to promptly call off the event.

In a joint statement, the ISRL and Salman Khan expressed deep sorrow:

“As you all know, a tragic incident occurred earlier in the day. It’s a sad time for everybody. ISRL and Mr. Salman Khan stand united with the nation in these tough times… We have made a responsible joint decision to reschedule this event. All our condolences and prayers are with the families of the dead. Stay strong, India.”

A formal press note echoed the same sentiments, affirming that the event would be rescheduled to a later date.

The crash of Boeing 787 Dreamliner (VT-ANB), which took off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport for London’s Gatwick Airport, has shocked the nation. The flight had 242 people on board, including passengers and crew.

Meanwhile, the Bollywood fraternity took to social media to express grief. Prominent voices including Akshay Kumar, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, Kartik Aaryan, Varun Dhawan, Vicky Kaushal, Shilpa Shetty, Anupam Kher, Janhvi Kapoor, Randeep Hooda, and Sanya Malhotra offered condolences and prayers for the victims and their families.

Rescue operations are ongoing, and a formal investigation has been launched into the cause of the crash.
