Intoxicated man enters ladies coach, tries to undress; FIR filed

Daijiworld Media Network – Mumbai

Mumbai, Jun 17: A shocking incident of public misconduct occurred aboard a Harbour Line local train on June 14, when an intoxicated man unlawfully entered the ladies coach near Chunabhatti station around 8 am and began exhibiting obscene behaviour.

The man, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, tried to take off his pants while leering at female passengers. The entire act was caught on camera by a vigilant reporter from The Free Press Journal, who was also present in the compartment. The footage, later shared on social media platform X, showed the man stumbling toward the door and nearly jumping off the moving train before regaining his balance.

Despite the threat he posed, no help was available at the next station, Wadala, or via railway helplines. The accused re-entered the train through another coach, prompting the journalist to take further action.

An FIR was later filed at the Wadala Railway Police Station by the journalist under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) Section 79, which criminalizes acts insulting a woman’s modesty, and Section 162 of the Bharatiya Railway Adhiniyam, 1989, which penalizes unauthorized male entry into female compartments.

While Section 79 of BNS prescribes up to three years of simple imprisonment and a fine, Section 162 allows for a fine of up to Rs 500 and the removal of the offender by railway staff.
Authorities are now investigating the case further.
