Bhatkal, Jan 28: The inaugural ceremony of ‘Kannada Sahitya Sammelana’ was held on Saturday January 28. After inaugurating the Sammelan, MLA J D Naik, congratulated Dr Zameerullah Shareef for his efforts in the Kannada Sahitya Sammelana.

Former minister Shivanand Naik, in his address, said “We should send our children to Kannada medium schools as we are in Karnataka. Why are we all giving importance to English?”

TMC president Inayatullah Shahbandari, in his address, said that Kannada is like Urdu. Both the languages have to be given importance, he said. He also congratulated Dr Zameerullah Shareef.

Addressing the gathering, he said, “Many more improvements should be made in Kannada and my important point is that you should conduct separate classes for Muslims as they do not know to speak Kannada well. We should all get together and work in Kannada Sahitya Sammelana and make it a success.”

T Nagappa, in his address, said, “We are missing important personalities from Bhatkal like late Dr Badul Hassan Muallim who passed away recently after an accident. He had contributed a lot to the Kannada Sahitya Sammelana.”
