Mangalore, Jan 28: Home minister R Ashok on Saturday January 28 said that there is demand for revision in the pay scale of police personnel and the matter will be considered after discussions with the DG and the home secretary. It is expected that the CM in his budget this year will set aside a sum which will be acceptable to the home ministry.
He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the inaugural ceremony of the new office of the Police Commissionerate here on Saturday.
On the row over Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat's speech at the recent Hindu Samajotsava in Uppinangady and subsequent demands for his arrest, Ashok said that action will be taken as soon as the CD of the speech is received and reviewed. "The FIR has already been lodged and investigations are on, so appropriate action will be taken based on the CD," he said.
About the central government still not having marked the state as a naxal-infested zone, the minister said that naxals are not too active in the state, however, combing operations and special package meant for naxals will continue. "Efforts are on in full swing to bring them to the mainstream of the society. There are also ‘hired’ naxals active in the state who speak Tamil, who are not from Karnataka," he said and added that the DG is taking special interest in mitigating naxal activities in the state. "The government also stands by its earlier development package for villages near naxal infested places," he said.
To a query on opposition party demanding for resignation of speaker K G Bopaiah, the minister said that the decision of the Supreme Court which came recently is a closed chapter now and since the opposition does not have any other issue to raise, it is making a hue and cry out of this, he said.
