Margao, Jul 2: In a move aimed at ensuring road safety and curbing misuse of vehicles, the Margao Town Police have intensified their drive against motorcycles plying without valid registration number plates. Several two-wheelers have already been seized in recent days, sending a stern message to violators.
Speaking, PI Suraj Samant, Margao Town Police Inspector, highlighted the gravity of the issue. “We intercepted a bike two-three days ago that had both number plates missing. The young rider failed to provide a satisfactory explanation,” said Samant. Upon further inquiry, the purported owner claimed to have purchased the vehicle from a third party, citing pending transfer procedures. However, the individual could not produce relevant documents when summoned to the police station.
In a separate incident, a motorcycle without number plates was found parked unattended in the Margao market area. “The vehicle was seized, and till now, no one has come forward to claim ownership,” Samant revealed.
The police have clarified that such drives are part of routine enforcement, particularly to deter misuse of unregistered vehicles which often get used for illegal or anti-social activities. Seized motorcycles are brought to the police station and fined, only to be released after owners fix proper number plates and furnish valid documents.
Authorities have appealed to the public to ensure their vehicles are fully compliant with RTO norms, including the use of clearly visible number plates, to avoid penal action.
