Panaji, Jul 4: In light of the incessant rains lashing the coastal state, the Directorate of Education, Goa, has announced a precautionary holiday for all schools across the state on Thursday, July 4. The decision follows a heavy rainfall alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), warning of severe to very heavy showers in various parts of the state.

As per an official circular (Acad/CIR/375/2023/2119) issued on July 3, Director of Education Shailesh R. Sinal Zingde confirmed that the school shutdown applies to both students and teaching staff. However, teachers involved in ongoing training programmes have been directed to report as per schedule.

Authorities have underscored the safety of school children as the primary concern behind the decision, citing the risks posed by travel during extreme weather conditions. The IMD’s alert has prompted administrative caution to prevent untoward incidents, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

The Goa Education Department has urged the public to remain alert and follow weather advisories issued by local authorities in the coming days.
