Mangalore, Jan 29: “Discipline is a valuable quality that should be present among students. One may attain any skill, art or educational qualification but the human thought should not be limited to narrow heights”, said DC Dr Channappa Gowda while addressing the school children at his house ‘Collectors gate’ in Balmatta here on Sunday January 29.
He was addressing the students at the district level Scouts, guides, Kab Bulbuls award giving ceremony organized by DK district unit of Bharath Scouts and Guides, Karnataka at his residence.
Speaking further, he asked the assembled children how they feel when their fellow students get high marks, whether they would be jealous or happy. The children immediately replied ‘Happy’. The DC then explained the children with a meaningful reference that, when there are so many fishes swimming in the sea, the water never gets irritated and says I will vanish from here. The sun will never say I will not give light to the earth. Tolerance should be there in every individual, he stressed.
Continuing to throw questions at students, the DC asked what they wanted to be in future and the teachers persuaded the children to say ‘IAS Officer’ which was observed by the DC that brought a smile on his face and others smiled too.
DC did not stop there. He told children not to forget the way they came up in life when they reach a higher position in future. He urged them to realize how their parents looked after them amidst all odds. By 2020 they say this nation would be a developed one, and by then you will be the responsible citizens. Always love each other and lead a good life, DC wished.
Later the DC said that at the age of 15, the students require the lessons of discipline. Currently in the district there are 30,000 students enrolled in scouts and guides wings. It is aimed that all the 2 lac children should enroll themselves in Scouts or guides except those who are already in NCC or NSS, he said.
He then presented the awards to 165 cubs, 193 bulbuls, 110 scouts, 175 guides, 50 rovers, 112 rangers. After they received the award as a custom they resumed their oath of volunteering themselves for the duty. Students took oath in the name of God and the nation.
Ramashesha Shetty, district commissioner of scouts welcomed. K Vasanth Rao, district secretary delivered keynote address. Irene D’Cunha, district commissioner of guides delivered the vote of thanks. S N Gopalakrishna, district organizer compered the programme. Semi classical dance programme was organized on the occasion.
