Panaji, Jul 9: Mapusa Police on Tuesday detained two migrant workers from Odisha — a father-son pair — for allegedly murdering a fellow labourer at a construction site in Fondac Vaddo, Parra, located in Goa’s North coastal belt.

The accused have been identified as Satya Nabarangpura (50) and his son Thabir (31). The victim, also believed to be from Odisha, was found late Monday night in a pool of blood inside a shared hut at the site. His throat had been slit, genitals mutilated, and he had suffered multiple injuries from stabbing and blunt force trauma with an iron rod. Police confirmed that excessive bleeding led to his death.

The murder came to light when the site supervisor, alerted by a prior altercation among the workers, sent another labourer to check on them. The victim was rushed to the Mapusa District Hospital but was declared brought dead.

The suspects had fled but were tracked down and arrested from a nearby field within hours. Police said the three men had arrived at the site just days earlier and were living together in a temporary shelter. Neither the contractor nor co-workers were aware of their complete identities, though all were reportedly from Odisha.

A case of murder has been registered, and a detailed investigation is underway.
