Sullia: Family Resists Sale of Child – Woman Attempts Suicide

Sullia, Jan 30: On Sunday January 29, a woman, angered by the resistance offered by the family members to her plan of selling her child, tried to commit suicide. She is battling for life at a hospital in Mangalore.

The incident occurred at Menala in Ajjavara village in the taluk. It is gathered that the woman had entered into an agreement with another family to sell off her five-year-old child, and had received money for the transaction. When she wanted to take the child with her to hand him over to the purchasers, the family members resisted. Enraged over this development, she poured kerosene on herself before igniting fire.

The woman was rushed to Mangalore in a serious condition for advanced treatment. It is learnt that her husband had abandoned her several years back, and his whereabouts are not yet known.
